Wiki/Sessions/The Session Dropdown

The control room of a session.

One button in the header runs the whole feature. Sessions are started, saved, steered, reordered and ended from the Session dropdown — the player and the wall only show what this panel configures.

Bits marked Pass are part of Goonwall Pass.
Everyone else gets the free tier. The locked controls stay visible, so you can see what they do.

The trigger button

Always in the header. Before you even open it, the button is telling you where your session stands.

The name
The button shows the current session’s name, or just “Session” when nothing is running. It is always in the header, on every page.
The * suffix
A trailing asterisk means the session has unsaved changes. It clears the moment you save.
The spinner
A small spinner sits on the button while a save is in flight, so you know it landed.
The red badge
A red corner badge counts the items in your pool. At a glance: how much is queued up, without opening the panel.
The border is a status light
The colour of the button’s border tells you the state of the session at a glance.
Pink
No active session. Nothing is running yet — click the button to start one.
Green
An active, saved session. It lives in one of your slots and every change is being kept.
Amber
An active session with unsaved changes. Save it to a slot before it expires, or it will not come home.

The header strip

Open the panel and the top of it is a status readout for the session you’re running.

Status pill + summary
A pill reads active or paused, alongside a line that reads “N items queued · N watched”. The watched count ticks up as clips complete or you skip them in the player.
Unsaved-session card
While a session is unsaved, an amber card warns “Unsaved session — expires in Nd”. It has a seven-day clock and an inline Save so you can rescue it on the spot.
Dirty-slot card
When a saved session has unsaved edits, a blue card offers Save or Cancel — Cancel reloads the slot’s stored config and throws your edits away.

Saved Sessions

A row of circular slot cards. Free gives you two; Pass gives you more.

🔥
Free
Slot 1
Your one free save. It shows the emoji icon you gave the session, and the active slot is highlighted.
Slot 2
On free this draws as a locked dashed circle — a Pass slot, ready when you are.
Slot 3
On free this draws as a locked dashed circle — a Pass slot, ready when you are.
Star = set default
Hover a slot for a star. Star it and that session auto-loads on your next visit; the star fills amber on whichever is the current default.
× = delete
The × removes a saved slot. It’s hidden on the session you’re currently running, so you can’t delete the one under your feet.
Click to open
“Click a saved session to open it.” Opening a slot is how you resume a saved session — the Start button always makes a fresh one.

Session controls

What the row of buttons does depends on whether a session is running.

Start New Session
With nothing running, this is the only control. Every click starts a brand-new session — saved sessions are opened by clicking their circle, not from here.
Free, slots full
On free, when both save slots are full the button is disabled, and hovering it tells you to delete a saved session first. Deliberate friction, not a bug.
Pause / Resume
Halts a running session or picks it back up. A paused session applies no filters until you resume it.
Save
Turns blue when there are unsaved changes. For a named slot it re-saves in place; for a brand-new session it opens the save modal.
End session
The red one. Stops the session for good — save first if you want it back, because an ended, unsaved session can’t be restored.

The config buffet

“+ Add Configuration” is where you steer a session. These are session-scoped filters over what the pool and the wall serve up.

selected / total
Category Preferences
Narrow the session to the categories you’re in the mood for. Its count badge shows how many you’ve picked against the full set.
count
Content Type
Steer toward the kind of content you want. It’s applied at every filter strength, not just the strict end.
count
Performers
Add featured performers with a typeahead search. This one bites hardest at Strict strength.
Opt-in, and nothing is pre-added. A new session starts unfiltered — not even Categories is on until you add it. Each section carries a count badge and its own × “Remove section”, so the steering is entirely yours to build up or tear down. Steering is available on every tier.

The Session Pool

Everything you’ve queued, in order. The wall plays this.

Drag to reorder
The pool is a numbered list. Grab a row and drag it to change the running order.
Watch from here
Every row carries a thumbnail and its duration, plus a “Watch from here” jump so you can start the wall on that clip.
Remove, or clear the lot
A × on each row drops that clip. “Clear queue” empties the pool in one go.
Watch playlist All devices
The pool badge carries a “Watch playlist” action plus the pool count. It jumps straight to the first item and plays the lot as a session playlist.
Where the pool fills up

The save modal

Hit Save on a fresh session and this is what asks for the details.

A name and an icon
Both are required. The name goes on the trigger button; the icon is how you’ll recognise the slot at a glance later.

On a phone All devices
The dropdown itself works on every device. On a phone the panel docks to the bottom of the screen as a sheet, with a sticky Done button to close it. The multi-slot wall it launches is a bigger-screen affair — but building and steering the session is a phone job like any other.

FAQs

Where do I find the dropdown?
It lives in the site header and it’s always there. The button reads the current session’s name — or just “Session” when nothing is running — and clicking it drops the panel down. On a phone it slides up from the bottom as a sheet with a sticky Done button, so it works everywhere, not just on the wall.
What does the little * after the name mean?
Unsaved changes. Anything you’ve altered since the last save — the pool, the steering configs, the name — puts an asterisk on the button and turns its border amber. Save the session to a slot and both clear.
Why is the button border a different colour sometimes?
It’s a status light. Pink means no active session. Green means an active session that’s saved to a slot. Amber means an active session with unsaved changes — the one state you want to act on, because an unsaved session expires after seven days.
How many sessions can I save?
Two on the free tier, more with Pass. The dropdown always draws three slot circles; on free, the third sits locked behind a dashed circle. Once both free slots are full, “Start New Session” is disabled until you delete one, and the button tells you so when you hover it. Saving when they’re full asks which session to save over.
Can I reorder my pool here?
Yes. The Session Pool section is a numbered, drag-to-reorder list. Each row has its thumbnail, its length, a “Watch from here” jump and a × to remove it, and “Clear queue” empties the whole thing.
What’s the difference between Save and End session?
Save writes the session into a slot so you can come back to it. End session stops it for good — an ended, unsaved session can’t be restored, so save first if you want it back.
One button
Now you know the whole panel.
Start a session, steer it, fill the pool, save it. Everything else in Sessions is downstream of this one dropdown.
